Mike Hiatt Withdraws from Race for City Council

Mike Hiatt has withdrawn his candidacy from the race for Payson City Council.

Mr. Hiatt was among eleven candidates whose names appeared on ballots when citizens arrived to cast their votes in the August 11 primary election.  They were competing for four-year positions currently held by Councilwoman Jolynn Ford, Councilman Kim Hancock, and Councilman Larry Skinner. The three incumbents, along with candidates Nathan Butterfield and Brent M Williams, were not successful in their attempt to proceed to November’s general election.

According to City Recorder Sara Hubbs, five candidates remain in the running: Doug Welton, Linda Carter, James Ewell, Brian Hulet, and Scott Pinkham. Because Utah State code does not provide a mechanism to replace a candidate who withdraws during the municipal election process, the possibility of a defeated primary election candidate assuming a withdrawn general election candidate's position for the general election is not allowed.
