“What we have once enjoyed we can never lose.
All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” ~ Helen Keller
Forthcoming funeral services are planned for the following friends from our community. Complete versions of these obituaries may also be found in The Payson Chronicle.

Laura Mae Carriere Steele
Aug. 31, 1937 – Nov. 29, 2019

Laura Mae Carriere Steele, 82, of Haughton, LA returned home to her Heavenly
Father on Nov. 29, 2019 and was reunited with her husband and love of her life.
She married Richard “Dick” Steele in 1953 and raised 5 boys and lived in Eunice
and Haughton, Louisiana, Payson, Utah, Georgia, Maine, North Dakota and
Panama. Dick and Laura returned to Texas after Dick retired from the Civil Service
in Panama.

Laura had a passion for the simple things of life, her husband and 5 boys, flowers,
anything with Owls, her many dogs and other pets that she had. She loved working
in her yard when she was able to do that. She was active in the Catholic Church
and always enjoyed Christmas and Easter. Laura had many good friends from all
the places where she lived and kept in touch with many of them, especially Neil and
Jeannine VanAusdal from Santaquin, Utah, and Cleo Burdick from Payson, Utah.

The funeral service will be held at the Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home in
Haughton, LA on Weds. Dec. 4th at 3PM, with Father Karl Daigle – St. Jude
Catholic Church officiating. A gathering of friends and family will be held after the
services.

Laura is survived by three sisters, Linda Carriere Tatman, Mary Carriere
Duplechain, Helena Carriere Oubre, four sons, Daniel G (Diana) Steele, Mark E.
(Debbie) Steele, Donald James “Jim” (Yvonne) Steele and Zachary S. Steele and
nine grandchildren and seventeen great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by
her Husband Richard G. Steele, son, Shawn A. Steele, her parents, Azama and
Andrew Carrierre, sisters, Lucy Carriere Arnaud, Elizabeth “Betty” Carriere Wead,
brothers, Ivan Luke Carriere and Rodney James Carrier.

We appreciate Mark Steele for his love and care the last few years, Mom’s friend
Marty, and all the health care professionals that have helped Laura for their love
and kindness they showed her. Laura will be missed and was loved by many.
