Max Blaine Reece

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, Max Blaine Reece, age 79 of Payson passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 23, 2016.

He was born October 29, 1937 at Payson, Utah to Robert Clark and Charlotte Electa Koyle Reece.

He married Gayle Erickson, September 20, 1957 in the Manti LDS Temple.

Max enjoyed golfing. During his years of golfing he managed to get 7 holes in one. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a general contractor for 37 years and owned and operated RD&R Construction with his brother Lynn and  Jack Daniels. He worked for The Daily Herald after retirement for 13 years. Max loved his family and especially his great-grandchildren.

Survivors include: his wife, Gayle, Payson; children, Lila Kay (Steve) Haws, Payson;  Maxine Bush, Clearfield; Stephen Blaine Reece, Payson; 5 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Elden and Lynn Reece; Nona Tervort and Leora Bradshaw.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 3, 2016, 11:00 a.m. in the Payson First Ward, 225 South 400 East, where friends may call 9:30 - 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Payson City Cemetery.

Corey T. Ewell

Corey Troy Ewell, 37, was born May 14, 1979 in Juarez, Mexico.  His parents Arlin Reed and Annie Ruth Banks Ewell were eager to meet their baby boy and brought him to his forever home when he was just days old.  Corey was a fun-loving child who loved everyone and shared his smile with anyone who came his way.  Corey grew up in Genola, Utah and attended Goshen Elementary School and later finished his high school education at Payson High School in 1998.  He worked many years in the service industry and most recently was working and serving the homeless as an employee of the Road Home in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Corey passed away December 26, 2016 at his home, peacefully, in his sleep after spending Christmas evening with his mother. 

Corey had a deep love of food. He loved making goodies and sharing a sucker, a cookie, or a meal with anyone who would eat with him.  He loved hanging out with his nieces and nephews and spent hours entertaining them with puzzles, outside adventures, and his homemade haunted houses.  He loved music, hiking all over Goblin Valley, and he loved his side job of washing windows. He loved making origami and shared his talent with many.  Corey, however, is known for his love of everything Nintendo.

Corey is survived by his parents, Arlin and Annie Ewell; his siblings, Reed (Linda) Ewell of Draper, UT, Randy (Gay) Ewell of Ely, NV, Kurt (Rebecca) Ewell of Taylorsville, UT, Allen (Sherrie) Ewell of Payson UT, Mary Ann (Spencer) Olsen of Sandy, UT; Marilyn (Gregg) Hiatt of Payson, UT, Merlene Ewell of Garland, UT, Malessa Ewell, Bruce (Regina) Ewell of Mountain Home, ID, Melanie (Mason) Francom of Murray, UT, Gina Reyes of Provo, UT, Keauna (Deon) Fesolai of Magna, UT, Shaylauna (Jimmy) Miller of Lehi, UT.  

Funeral services will be Friday, Dec. 30, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Genola LDS Church, Main & Center Street.  Friends may call at the Brown Family Mortuary, 66 South 300 East, Santaquin on Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and Friday at the church from 9:45 to 10:45 am prior to services.  Burial, Spanish Fork Cemetery.  Share condolences at www.brownfamilymortuary.com

Adah Marlene Young Montague

Adah Marlene Young Montague, 81, of Payson UT passed away on Monday, December 26, 2016. She always kept a great attitude of service. She was as spunky as she could be. She had agreed to be the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers (DUP) Chaplain at the Charleston in Cedar Hills, Utah, her latest area of residency.  

She was born to the late William Henry McCawley Young and Hilda Allean Willis on May 11, 1935. Marlene graduated from Tooele High School in 1953. After graduation Marlene enrolled in St. Marks Nursing School where she graduated with a Nursing Diploma. Upon her graduation, Marlene worked at St. Mark’s hospital.  Marlene also worked at Nephi Hospital and Mountain View Hospital in Payson, Utah.  After her retirement from Mountain View Hospital, she volunteered there for about fifteen years.

Marlene was involved in Scouting as a Den Mom for at least fifteen years and Girl Scouting for ten. She was very involved in the Payson Chapter of the DUP.  Marlene was also a coronet player in the Payson City Band for fifteen years. She played the coronet in Jr. High and High School marching band in Tooele.

On October 20, 1957 she married Eldon Hoover and they had Steven and Rodney but later divorced.

She later married Marcus Armstrong Montague on May 19, 1968 and their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple on August 17, 1970. This union blended a family of his, hers, and theirs (Nancy) into one.

A faithful member of the LDS church, she served in many capacities. She served as RS President, chorister and also as the funeral/luncheon coordinator. The latter one was her favorite calling. She also enjoyed serving along with her husband as temple workers in the Provo temple from 1987-1989.

Marlene is survived by five children: Steven Montague, Las Vegas, NV, Barbara (Jim) Rhodes, Loveland, CO, Stuart (Kelly) Montague, Payson, UT, Rodney (Marnie) Montague, Los Angeles CA, Nancy (Boris) Reyes, Highland, UT, fifteen grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren with one on the way and an older brother, Gordon Young, and a younger sister, Jeannie Young. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Mark Montague.

Marlene left behind a great legacy of hard work through service, love for Scouting, music, family, and the importance of unconditional love. She will be dearly missed. Until we meet again. We love you!!

Funeral services will be Saturday, December 31, 2016, 11:00 a.m., in the Payson, Utah Park Ward Chapel, 110 South 300 West. Friends may call at the Walker Mortuary, 587 South 100 West, Payson, Friday, 6-8:00 p.m. or at the Church on Saturday, 9:45-10:45 a.m. Burial will be in the Payson City Cemetery.

Niles Persson
Niles Leonard Persson, 87, passed away December 20, 2016 with his family by his side.

Niles was born August 24, 1929 in Payson, Utah, one of five children.  He served in the Central States mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from 1949 to 1951. He is a graduate of the School of Pharmacy of the University of Utah.  Following his graduation, he served in a MASH unit on the front lines of the Korean War.

After the war, he returned home and married for time and all eternity the love of his life, Carol Dawn Kropf, in the Los Angeles California LDS Temple.  They have been happily married for over 60 years.  They settled in Madera, California where he owned and operated Niles Pharmacy for many years.  In 2005, he was recognized for being a 50-year active registered pharmacist by the California Board of Pharmacy.

Niles was known for his kindness, patience and spiritual humility.  He demonstrated these attributes as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He also used these traits as the branch president and then the first Bishop of the Madera Ward for 13 years, leading the building of the church house where the Madera Wards still meet.  Niles created beautiful gardens that were enjoyed by many.  He loved traveling the world with his cherished wife throughout their lives.

He is survived and greatly missed by his wife, his children, Janee Persson and Dion Persson (Stephanie), along with five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, along with his older brother, Sheldon Persson.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 1 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home in Payson, 587 South 100 West, Payson. A Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at 12 p.m. at the Walker Funeral Home in Payson. Condolences may be sent to www.walkerobits.com

MADISON JOHN (JACK) ARGYLE
Madison John Argyle, (Jack), age 92, left us on December 20, 2016, to spend eternity with his loving wife, Shirley, who he has missed tremendously.
        
Jack was born October 30, 1924 to Ivan Madison and Venetta Betts Argyle of Payson, UT. He was the oldest of 5 children.  He was a member of the LDS Church and later held the position as a High Priest.
        
He joined the Army in 1944 where he fought for our country during WWII. Upon returning, he worked at Ironton Steel Mill in Springville and retired from The Dugway Proving Grounds.
        
After he returned home from the war, he married Shirley Holm of Spanish Fork, Utah on September 29, 1948. where  they were later sealed in the Manti Temple.
        
They had 3 beautiful children together: Douglas and Judy Argyle, Kent and Patricia Horrocks, Darrell Argyle and Kim.
        
He loved playing his harmonica any time somebody would give him a chance, he loved to draw and his favorite pictures were of horses, where he gladly gave them away.  He was even known to have sold a few. And if you ever wanted to say hi, he would have supper at One Man Band most nights of the week. He was a very sociable man who had stories for anybody who had the time.
        
He is survived by his 3 children, a brother Howard Argyle and a sister Laverne Argyle Larsen, 9 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and lots of nieces and nephews.
        
He was preceded in death by wife Shirley, his parents, step-mother LaRue Smith Argyle, sister  Lillian Irick, brother Reed, parents-in-law Hans Andrew and Ellieta Beck Holm,  and daughter-in-law Mary Hadfield Argyle.
        
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at 12 p.m. at the Payson 15th Ward LDS Chapel, 650 West 800 South, Payson. A Visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 from 10:15-11:45 a.m. at the church. Friends may call prior to service from 10:15-11:45 a.m.  Burial will be at Payson City Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the American Legion.

UDOT Extends Payson Main Street Interchange Timeline
