Mourning the Passing of Friends: Forthcoming Funeral Services

Melroy (Mel) B. Harward
1936 – 2016

Melroy (Mel) B. Harward died November 26, 2016 due to complications of Alzheimer’s at Pheasant Run Alzheimer’s Special Care Center. Mel was born December 22, 1936 to Thomas Orin & Alma Renee Barney Harward in Kenilworth, Carbon County, Utah.

Mel began his professional career while he was still in high school working at Sears selling draperies. He met Sheila Elizabeth Bruno while working at Sears and they married and later divorced. Mel lived most of his life in the Salt Lake Valley. Later in life he met and married Donna Peterson, after he married Donna they spent summers in Minnesota and winters in Salt Lake.

Mel enlisted in the Air Force as an active duty reservist where he visited over forty countries all over the world. At age 40 he switched branches of service so he could become an Army Green Beret. He spent over 30 years serving his country.

Education was important to Mel, after retiring from the military he went back to school for a Master’s Degree in social work. He enjoyed his time in the military and as a social worker. Mel loved to travel, boat and water ski, snow ski (he was even a ski instructor at Brighton Ski Resort) and go to ballgames with his boys. He loved cars and had several different models (Baracuda, Model-T, Jaguar, & several Mustangs) throughout his life.

Survived by his wife Donna Peterson Harward, children, Kim (Brent) Thompson, South Jordan, UT, Keri (Boyd) Price, Monroe, UT, Melroy ”Roy” (Athena) Harward, South Jordan, UT, Kyle (Traci) Harward, Farmington, UT, Kaly (Laura) Harward, Eugene, OR. 19 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, siblings Thomas Harward, Shirley Holt & Oranee Abbott.

A viewing was held Sunday December 4th from 5:00-5:50 pm followed by a Celebration of Life at 6:00 pm, at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley 1007 W. South Jordan Parkway (10600 So.). There was also be a Celebration of Life Monday, December 5th 12:00 noon at the Unity Spiritual Center, 1602 E. 2100 S. Garden Center @ Sugar House Park. We would like to thank all those at Pheasant Run for the wonderful care they gave our dad. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Alzheimer’s association, in Mel’s name.
