Memorial Park A Buzz With Onion Days Preparations

A City of Fun crew sets up Big Eli 16 RimDrive, the carnival's Ferris wheel, September 3, in preparation for Friday's Onion Days opening crowd.

Golden Onion Days would not be the same without the City of Fun Carnival rides, food, and arts and craft sales in Memorial Park, located at 250 South Main, Payson.  Boutique and food vendors will await visitors to the park with tantalizing flavors and deals throughout the entire weekend.

The carnival kicks off on Friday, September 4, with a one-ticket-per-ride family special from 4-11 PM that night only.  Rides continue on Saturday, September 5, from 12-11 PM, again from 12-11 PM on Sunday, September 6, and on Labor Day Monday, September 7, from 10 AM until 10 PM.

A local favorite, the Hypno Hick, Shaun Dee, will perform his family friendly, stage hypnosis show on Friday, September 4, following the Onion Days Baby Contest, at approximately 6:15 PM.  The performance will take place on the Memorial Park Bandstand stage.

Payson Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast will begin bright and early in Memorial Park the following morning, Saturday, September 5, at 8 AM.  Sponsored by the Interfaith Council, the breakfast is free.  All denominations are welcome.

A children’s talent show will take place after,at 10:30 AM, for participants ages 12 and under, followed by a teen (ages 13-17) talent show at 1 PM, and an adult talent show at 3 PM.  A performance by the 2014 Teen Talent Show winner, Whitney Lusk, will take place at 5 PM.

Music will take center stage in Memorial Park on September 6 with the Sunday Summer Band Concert.  The band will begin to play at 8 PM.  The music and entertainment will continue the following day, Labor Day morning, following the grand parade, which starts at 10 AM.
