Mourning the Passing of Friends: Forthcoming Funeral Services

Forthcoming funeral services are planned for the following friends from our community. Complete versions of these obituaries may also be found in The Payson Chronicle.


BETTIE ANN MUHLSTEIN
Bettie Ann Muhlestein, age 83, returned to her Heavenly Father Monday, May 27, 2019 at Pointe
Meadows Health and Rehabilitation in Lehi, Utah.  From her birth in Bingham Canyon, Utah on
July 31, 1935 to her death on Monday, she nourished people around her with her love, faith and
dedication.  She grew up on a farm in Fruita, Colorado with her parents, George and Minnie Newitt
and was the second oldest of four children. She broke and trained horses at an early age and excelled
at horsemanship.  She entertained many at rodeos and gatherings with a trick horse named Cindy she
raised from a filly.

Bettie was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at the age of seventeen. She
later moved to Utah and married the love of her life, Donald W. Muhlestein.  She and Don were
married April 1, 1953 in the Salt Lake Temple. They made their first home in Provo and then in 1961,
moved to Payson. Both Don and Bettie were active members of their community and Church.  Don
served as a Payson City councilman for a term and later became the city's Superintendent of water and
sewer. Bettie served as president of both PTA and Relief Society organizations as well as many other
church callings.

Left to honor Bettie and remember her love are Bettie's eight children;  Donald ‘Lynn’ (Becky)
Muhlestein of Kaysville, Larry Muhlestein of Payson, Kevin Muhlestein of Springville, Randee
(Corinne) Muhlestein of Riverton, Scott (Michelle) Muhlestein of Spanish Fork, Debbie (Milt)
Muhlestein of Elk Ridge, Danny (Diana) Muhlestein of Payson, Kris (Missy) Muhlestein of Spanish
Fork;  Thirty-five grandchildren and thirty-six great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruby (Duane) Hodson
of Grand Junction, Co.; Sisters-in-law Lanell Newitt of Colburn, Co. and Shirley Newitt of New
Castle, Co.; and a cousin Dorothy Russell of Grand Junction, Co. Bettie has had a grand reunion with
all those who have passed on before her including her beloved husband, Donald Muhlestein; Parents
George G. and Minnie Pearl McIntyre Newitt; Brothers Harold Don 'Corky' Newitt and Earl Dean 'Joe'
Newitt; Half-brothers Guilford Ray Newitt, Glen Pace Newitt and John D Kramer; Half-sister Jane
Newitt Knight; Grand-daughters Celia Muhlestein, Vanessa Dawn Sottiaux and great-grand daughter
Lilly Lynne Wright.
                                                                            
Bettie will be remembered as a bright shining light to her family and all she served.  A viewing will
be held on Friday, May 31, 2019 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Walker Funeral Home, 587 S 100 W Payson.
There will also be a viewing prior to funeral services on Saturday, June 1, 2019 from 9:30 – 10:30 AM
at the Payson West Stake Center, 780 W 500 S in Payson.  Funeral services will start at 11:00 AM.
Following funeral services, internment will be at the Payson City Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank Pointe Meadows Health and Rehabilitation for the tremendous love, care
and compassion they provided for our dear mother during her stay. Condolences may be sent to the
