Nineteen-year City Employee Cheryl Hobbes Handed Ted Bates Award

The Payson City employee Christmas banquet opened last week with the presentation of an annual award designed to recognize the talents of a city employee. Cheryl Hobbes would step up to receive the honor, named Ted Bates Award Winner for 2011.
Hobbes's peers were instrumental to her receiving the award. Nominations submitted by them on her behalf offered glowing sentiments, such as: “Cheryl cares about the well-being of Payson and enjoys her job very much. She loves all the people she works with. She is friends with everyone and never has a bad word to say about anyone. Cheryl could train all of us with her customer service skills. There are customers that ask for her personally when they come in to pay their utility bills, because she is so kind.”
Hobbes has been employed with Payson City for nineteen years, her first job as a part-time employee in the Payson Read program and Utility Department. She was transferred to the Planning and Zoning Department a few years later, where she worked as a full-time secretary until assuming her current responsibilities as utility billing clerk, a role she has held for the last eight years.
Last week's honor came with a plaque and check, presented by Lynn Harmer, representing the Dave McMullin family, who established the award years ago.
