FAYE MATTINSON

Faye Mattinson, age 87, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2020.  He was born on August 10, 1932 in Payson, Utah to John William “Bill” Mattinson and his mother Mildred Agnes “Nell” Provstgaard Mattinson.

Faye graduated from Payson High School and enlisted in the United States Navy.  He loved serving his country during the Korean War.  Faye had a gift for memorizing numbers that was utilized in his military assignments. He often reflected upon the many places he toured and shared personal experiences aboard the USS Randolph.  Some of his fondest memories came from extended friendships with shipmates throughout his life.

Dad was grateful for his older brothers as they worked by his side as a young person and taught him a skill that he used throughout his life.  Bob taught him how to drive a truck, Boyd taught him how to cook, and Fred taught him how to weld.

Upon his discharge from his naval service, Faye worked for his brother as an interstate truck driver. He later attended college at Utah Valley Technical College and Brigham Young University.  He then began his career as a carpenter, contractor, building inspector, and a construction superintendent.

Faye married Jo Anne Witt.  The two of them made their home in Payson, Utah where they raised their six children.  He loved his family more than anything and worked hard to teach them the importance of an education.  He and Jo Anne sacrificed to ensure that each of their children graduated from college.  Dad loved our family vacations to many places in the western states where all of the family and grandchildren could be together under one tent or one roof!  He was famous for his chicken handles (as the grandkids referred to it) and grand slam breakfasts, when the family gathered together.

Faye loved to fish.  He enjoyed getting away after a hard week’s work to the mountains. He especially enjoyed fishing with his family and friends at nearby reservoirs. As a young boy, he enjoyed spending summer months with his father herding sheep in the nearby mountains of Strawberry Reservoir.

Faye was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He was also a member of the Provo Elks Club and past member and President of the Payson Lions Club.  He enjoyed participating in many service opportunities to help underprivileged children. He loved his country and treasured his freedoms.

Faye will be remembered for his hard work ethic, charity to those in need, and for his loud hearty “Hello” that he greeted everyone he came in contact with.  He loved visiting with others both strangers and friends alike.  He supervised the construction of many buildings throughout Utah. He worked for Witt, Paulsen, and Tolboe Construction Companies.

He is preceded in death by his wife Jo Anne Mattinson (wife), Bruce Faye Mattinson (son), Kelly Gene Mattinson (son), and his parents Mildred Agnes “Nell” Mattinson, John William “Bill” Mattinson, and his brothers Fred Gene Mattinson, half-brother Robert “Bob” Murano, William Boyd Mattinson and his sister Sally Holt.

He is survived by his children Randolph J. Kohlwey (Brynn), Dr. Keith S. Mattinson, Jeffrey W. Mattinson (Dawn), Susan Hayes (Tim). He is the proud grandfather of nine amazing grandchildren. He is survived by his youngest sister, Helen Hurst.

A private graveside service will be held at Payson City Cemetery under the direction of Utah Valley Mortuary.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you help someone in need.

BESSIE BEDDOES

Our sweet and loving Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, and Great-Great-Grandmother, Bessie Beddoes, returned to her Heavenly Father on March 23, 2020, at the age of 96. She was born December 24, 1923, in Genola, Utah, daughter of John William and Sarah Olive Littlefield Limb. She was the youngest of her siblings. She had two older brothers, Lawrence and Glen Limb; two sisters, Elfreda (Shell) and Elda (York), and two brothers that passed away very young, Ronald Orson and Fredrick Limb.  She married her sweetheart, Max Lavon Beddoes, on March 30, 1943. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple on May 12, 1964. Max passed away on August 6, 2005.

Bessie grew up in Santaquin, Utah. She was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and stayed close to the gospel her whole life.

When she was in the fifth grade, she stayed with her brother, Lawrence and his family, while she went to school.  She lived with them on and off until she graduated from high school. When she was 18, she met Max through a friend. They dated for a short while, until Max had to go in the Army in January of 1941.

Bessie trained to be an LPN and she worked in the Eldred Hospital in Provo. When she retired, she was working at Tiny Tots in Orem, run by her niece, Lorraine Topham.

Being a very talented woman, she could do almost anything she set her mind to do. Working on cars, changing walls in her house, and she was great at doing wallpaper.  She liked to sew, to crochet, and to garden; not too long ago, she was still doing embroidery work.  She had a great love for all of her nieces and nephews.

She is survived by three of her four children: Garold (Ginger) Beddoes, Payson UT; daughter-in-law, Lee Ann Beddoes, Payson UT; Kathy (Jay) Peterson, Goshen UT; and Von Dean Beddoes, Payson UT. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Arnold Dale Beddoes; great-grandson, Rhett Rodney Bowles; and all of her brothers and sisters.

The family would like to thank Utah Valley Hospital for the good care they gave to her. They would also like to thank A Plus Hospice for their help in taking care of her, especially her granddaughter, Andrea Braithwaite, for her tremendous help in all that she did for Bessie.

Due to the Corona Virus restrictions, the family will be holding a graveside service on Saturday, March 28, 2020, at 2 p.m. at the Payson City Cemetery.

William David Stickney

Our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather returned home to his Heavenly Father on Thursday, March 19, 2020.

William David Stickney was born on July 17, 1927 in Eureka, UT to Ivan Wesley Stickney and Ruby Cole Stickney. He married Geneal Robbins (his sweetheart of 70 years) on August 27,1949 in Santaquin, UT. On September 17, 1960 they were sealed for eternity in the Manti Temple and blessed with 4 children.

As a young man he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving as a cook in WWII on the troop trains.
Bill was a wonderful husband and fun-loving father. He loved serving others, helping neighbors and friends and working on the church farm. He accepted and magnified various callings, especially as a faithful home teacher and grew close to the families he visited. Together mom and dad enjoyed serving for 4 summers as campground hosts at the Koholowo Girls Camp and loved working with the leaders and young girls there. Dad also enjoyed serving in the Provo Temple for several years as a veil worker. He had a testimony of the gospel and loved his Savior, Jesus Christ.

Dad loved spending time with family, whether it was traveling, camping, fishing or celebrating holidays together. He also loved playing in the outdoors hunting, boating, snow and water skiing and playing golf. He spent many joyful hours in his wood working shop making wonderful wood pieces that he gifted to his family and many others throughout his life. He was short in stature but big on his abundance of love, service and kindness to all.

We would like to give a special thanks to Susan Vacher from Encompass Home Health, hospice nurses and the kind and loving nurses and staff at Central Utah Veterans Home.

Bill is survived by his wife, Geneal, and their children: Pat, Kent, Kathie (Scott) Berry and Colleen (Mark) Ainge. He also leaves behind 9 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild who will all miss him dearly.

Remarkable Talent On Display At 2020 Peteetneet High School Art Exhibit

Caden Wright's 'Scorpio' (pictured above) took Best of Show.
It's that time again for the High School Art Exhibit at the Peteetneet Museum and Cultural Arts Center in Payson. Participating schools are Spanish Fork High, Salem Hills High, and Payson High School. Organizers have just put it up and entries have been judged.  Now it is time for the public to visit the exhibit and enjoy the fruits of the student artists’ labor.

“We have a lot of really good art and I'm always happy to see what the students have created,” said
Rebecca Peery, Peteetneet Art Council President.  This year’s exhibit includes a wide range of mediums
in two dimensional art, photography, ceramics and metal sculpture.

Russell Ricks of Art Hub on Main judged this year’s show. "Judging an art show's never an easy task
and this one was no different,” he said. “I was pleased to see all the participants put a lot of creative
thought and energy into their art piece. I encourage all the students to continue to create and improve
their craft throughout their life."

This year’s show received enough ceramics entries that they were judged in their own category. First
place was for ‘Ceramic Bowls, Set of Three’ by Erin Plewe from Spanish Fork High. Second place went
to ‘American Mimic’ by Coltran Ventura from Salem Hills. The third place ribbon was pinned on  ‘I Lost
My Marbles’ by Ailine Tukuafu from Spanish Fork. Honorable Mention was awarded to Selina Dennis
of Salem Hills High for her piece, ‘Dragon Gobblet.’ The Best of Show award went to Caden Wright of
Salem Hills for his work, ‘Scorpio.

In the Two Dimensional category, the winners are:

First Place for 'Summer’s Over' by Mireya Greenhalgh from Payson, Second Place for  'Van Gogh Study'
by Danielle Wilkerson from Payson, and Third Place for 'A Comfortable Silence' by Sasha Byrd from
Spanish Fork. Honorable Mention awards went to 'The Small Things' by Katherine Roberts from Payson,
'The Fool' by Cole Anderson from Spanish Fork, 'Scattered State of Mind' by Chloe Sokol from Salem
Hills, 'Knife Painting' by Violet Andrews from Payson, and 'Imagination' by Kylee Nelson from Spanish
Fork.

The exhibit will run through the end of April, 2020, and organizers hope that the public will come and see
it! Museum hours are Monday - Friday from 10 AM - 4 PM.  The Peteetneet Museum and Cultural Arts
Center is located at 10 North 600 East, Payson, Utah.
