Her baked goods were all made from scratch. She was an excellent seamstress. Her home was a tribute to her beautiful and classic taste. She was well organized and nothing fell by the wayside.
She enjoyed her children, but there was a special place in her heart for her grand and great grandchildren. She read, played, and sang with all of them and always had a treat to share, making her a beloved Grandma. She was a wonderful example, and taught her children and grandchildren to be respectful to others and kind to all they met. She taught us all, that no matter what, being happy was a choice we could make. She will be loved and missed by her family and her friends.

Barbara Jean Walton Davis
July 11, 1935 ~ January 6, 2014
Boy, oh-boy are we lucky – we don’t have to wonder what Mom wanted in her obituary! We KNOW what she wanted because she wrote it all down! In her ‘Living Will’ she wrote, “Have whomever of you that can, write my obituary in a kind way. Be truthful, but show mercy. Don’t start it…our mother, grandmother, aunt and so forth, I really hate that. BE REAL…OUR WONDERFUL, KIND, FUNNY, LOVING, THIN, RICH, MOTHER CROAKED TODAY! HA!” We also know she didn’t want a somber funeral. Mom wanted a party with balloons! So put your arms up in the air (palms up) and in a chant say, “PARTY! PARTY! PARTY!” (Just like she always did)!
Mom was the best, most wonderful, most fun, most creative, funniest, kindest, least judgmental mother that ever lived. She taught us how to love and serve our fellow man without any strings attached, and she taught us to find value in ALL human beings. Mom had more friends than we can count, and she made everyone one of them feel they were the most important person in the world. Whenever asked which child or friend was her favorite, she would respond “whoever needs it the most”.
Mom graduated from Payson High School (1953), married shortly after, and had 9 children. She accompanied her husband around the world with the US Air Force. She lived in the most interesting and wonderful places, such as England, the Philippines, Japan, and all over the US. After raising her children Mom went back to school and got her Associates Degree in Applied Science-Medical Secretary in 1990. She worked as a medical receptionist-secretary for Utah Valley Regional Hospital, where she made life-long friends and relationships. Mom also worked as a receptionist and information specialist for Uinta National Forest until she retired in 2008. Mom was named “Mother of the Year” by the Governor of Utah in 1999, she was a Notary Public, she sang for many years in the LaNesta Chorus, she danced with ‘Jean’s Golden Girls’, and she claimed to be the Onion Princess because her dad was the Payson Onion King (oh how she loved Payson Onion Days!). Mom loved going to club, collecting ruby red glass, attending plays, going to get a drink, and wearing sparkly earrings. Her greatest treasures were her sisters and brothers, her children, her cat ‘Jazz’, her friends, and most of all, her Savior.
Mom was a life-long devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She held many callings in the church, such as Relief Society President and Young Women’s president for both her ward and for her stake. She was dedicated, organized, and always gave 110% in everything she did! Mom had an intensely strong testimony and shared it best by her exceptional example.
Barbara, daughter to Bruce and Ruth Walton, married to George Douglas Davis for 37 years (later divorced). They had 9 children: Douglas (Miriam) Davis, Lydia Woolsey, Wendy (Mike) Aragon, Eric (Sherry) Davis, Janet (Brock) Almond, Darian Davis, Christine (Michael) Hunter, Jamie (Cori) Walton, Micheal Davis (who preceded her in death), and her chosen son Michael (Kristen) Krus from Sweden. Also Ron and Amy Brown, who never left her heart as family. Barbara is survived by her siblings: Christine (Gerry) Ollerton, Trita (Claire) Davis, John (Carolyn) Walton, and Michael Walton. She was preceded in death by her siblings: Joseph (Joey) Walton, and Jetta Walton Quinlan Cloward. Mom’s life was blessed by 39 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren.
One last selection from her ‘Living Will’: “Thank you so much for all the wonderful and kind things you did for me here on this earth. Thank you so much for your love, for listening ears, telephone calls, trips to the hospital/doctors with me, birthday fun, dancing and hugging me. Thanks for understanding me… I’ll see you soon if you not already there when I come through. I hope I can do whatever I have to do in dignity and faith…See you soon! Barbara J. Davis, someone who loves the gospel and the God that organized it!!!”

PFC Cody James Towse
Bronze Star Recipient, Specialist Cody James Towse, was killed in action in Afghanistan on May 14, 2013, while in the service of his country and fellow soldiers. After a roadside explosive hit members of his unit, Cody rushed in to provide aid to the injured soldiers. He was then hit by a larger, secondary explosion. Cody died while trying to save his Army brothers.
Cody was born on Mother’s Day, May 8th, 1992, in Pasadena, CA and moved to Utah with his family as a young child. Cody was always mature beyond his years, with a clear vision of what he wanted to accomplish in his life and the drive to make it happen. He was adventurous and always up for a dare; he loved riding his long board and motorcycle, and was well known for his intelligent, off-beat, dry sense of humor.
Cody loved classic cars, classic rock, and shopping for vintage clothing at D.I. with his dad. He was also passionate about America and American history, which influenced his decision to join the military
Cody loved helping others and became an EMT on his 18th birthday. He worked as a volunteer firefighter and EMT for Elk Ridge City. He loved being a “First-Responder” and people remember him as always being the fastest to arrive at the scene. His parents fondly remember an occasion when Cody was so determined to respond to a call that he coasted to the scene of the accident on his motorcycle because it had run out of gas. He was confident and competent in his work as an EMT and medic, and had aspirations to become a Life-Flight Medic.
Cody graduated from Salem Hills High School in 2010 and joined the Army shortly thereafter, choosing the Army because they assured him a position as a medic. He completed Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO, where his father Jim, proudly attended the graduation ceremony. Cody then trained as a medic in San Antonio, TX, and afterwards, was stationed at Fort Bliss, TX until he was deployed to the Kandahar region of Afghanistan in December of 2012. Once in Afghanistan, Cody helped to train the Afghan medics in life-saving procedures. He went on patrols twice a day every day, and loved what he did. He became known to the local residents as the “Candy Doctor,” as he loved giving candy to the Afghan children. For his 21st birthday, Cody asked only that his parents send him candy to give to the children.
Cody is survived by James Towse (father), Jamie Christiansen Towse (mother), Will Spencer Towse (brother), Callen Brook Towse (sister), Christian Paul Towse (brother), as well as a loving extended family, including his grandmother Dorothy Christiansen, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.
He is also survived by his brothers of the 3rd Batt., 41st Infantry Reg., 1st Brig. Combat team, 1st Armored division. We wish to honor his fellow fallen soldiers, Sergeant First Class Jeffrey C. Baker, Specialist Mitchell Kirk Daehling, and Specialist William Joseph Gilbert. We offer our prayers, honor and gratitude to these injured brothers who survived the attack.
Cody was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Ken Towse, US Navy and Maxine Ruth Johnson, and his maternal grandfather, C. Paul Christiansen, US Army.
The public is invited to an Honorable Transfer Ceremony for Cody at the Provo Airport and a military procession from the Airport to the Towse home in Elk Ridge, Utah. There will also be a viewing at the Towse home. Because details of these events are pending, see Cody’s Facebook page for more information: https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Cody-Towse/127249907475894?fref=ts.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 1st at 11:00 AM at Salem Hills High School. Family, friends, and anyone wishing to pay respects to Cody may also come to a closed casket viewing at the Towse home (234 S. Shayda Circle, Elk Ridge, Ut) on Friday evening, May 31st from 6PM - 9PM.
In lieu of flowers, The Towse family would ask donations be made to the PFC Cody Towse Memorial Scholarship Fund at any Wells Fargo bank branch or at Cody’s Tropical Sno Shave Ice Shack, 495 North Main, Springville, UT or at any PartyLand location in Lehi, Orem, Springville, St George, UT. People may also donate through this link on Facebook via Paypal: https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Cody-Towse/127249907475894?fref=ts.
