PICTURES TELL THE PAYSON STORY ~ Payson Historical Society: PAYSON LDS SEMINARIES

Pictured above is the Page-Harding Home, 300 South Main,
Payson, Utah, where the first Junior Seminary was held.
Since 1912, the LDS Seminaries and Institutes of Religion of the Church Educational System
have been a vital force for good in the lives of thousands of Latter-day Saint young people. What
is now a worldwide program had its beginnings in Salt Lake City in 1912 with the first seminary;
the University of Idaho had the first institute of religion in 1928.

When the seminary program began, it was back in 1912. It was a local Salt Lake City program.
It was later expanded to other schools in Utah. Many of the areas where church members live,
the seminary program is held early in the morning hours since there is not released time given
to any faith to have religious classes during the regular school day.

In the fall of 1925 the LDS Seminary program was instituted as a side issue of study at Payson
High School.
