The David and LaRaye Gabbitas home in Santaquin. The lovely lot has been chosen as the second Yard of the Week for the 2014 summer season.
Our second Yard of the Week award goes to David and LaRaye Gabbitas, whose lot in Santaquin, is charming in its decor and rich with alternating plantlife as the seasons shift throughout the year.
The family moved into the home in 1997 and have improved the landscape over time. Their care has even included a parcel outside their property’s boundary. A strip of ground which runs alongside an old rock irrigation ditch, still in use, has been brought to life by the generous steward, filled in with a well trimmed lawn, Red Hot Pokers, and thriving white and yellow daisies, a favorite of LaRaye’s.
Poppies, from the more familiar red to a multi-colored white and pink, are new this year. They frame the outer area of the yard, surrounding several American flags on display. Not far are several beds showcasing welded and sculpted treasures: Wildlife, wagon wheels, and rustic pots offsetting purple Allium giganteum, cacti, and other plant life native to our region.
Missing now are the irises and peonies that are remarkable. They bloomed and died off a few weeks ago, as they are known to do. Annuals fill in the gaps and the yard maintains its loveliness regardless of season.
