Park View Sixth Graders Receive Gifts, Thanks to Local Lion Jennifer Huff and Community Support

Payson Lions Jennifer and Rhett Huff (left-right, standing in background, facing camera) lead sixth grade students at Park View Elementary, May 18, in a “Roar!” before presenting them books in gift bags to enjoy throughout the summer.

While in Japan last summer for the induction of Rhett Huff as District Governor for Utah Lions District 28T, Lions Club leaders’ spouses were challenged to go back to their respected communities and provide service.  Rhett’s wife,  Jennifer Huff, who serves as Payson Lions Secretary, accepted the challenge by seeing to it that local students would be prepared for the next school year with a book to read over summer break.

Dianne Corlew, wife of Lions Club International President Bob Corlew, is a retired pediatrician. Diane's love for children and education is what inspired Jennifer to want to provide books to the sixth grade classes at Park View Elementary School in Payson.  With support from her local Payson Lions Club and businesses in the community, she was able to provide 75 books in gift bags combined with treats to complement the students’ summer reading.  The books and gift bags were presented by the Huff family on May 18 in the classrooms of Mrs. Kristal Nielson, Mrs. Kate Pugmire, and Ms. Carrie Van Nosdol.

Rhett and Jennifer Huff have been members of the club since 2010. The Payson Lions Club has been serving the community for the past 93 years and Lions Club International will celebrate 100 years of service in 2017.

Jennifer would like to express thanks to the following Payson businesses for making this project a success:
The Payson Chronicle
The Payson Library
BCB Heating & Air
The UPS Store
Eli's Old-Fashioned Ice Cream & Soda
Wendy's
Papa Murphy's
Mountain America
Pizza Hut
Park View Elementary Principal Shanna Stirland and the 6th grade teachers Kristal Nielson, Kate Pugmire, and Carrie Van Nosdol

Rhett Huff (seated, center, pointing) invites students in Ms Kristal Nielson's sixth grade class to share their knowledge of the Lions Club as Ms Nielson (standing, left) and Jennifer Huff (standing, right) look on.
Jennifer encourages everyone to look into the Lions Club and see where you can get involved in making a difference within your community.
