Public Invited to Share Use Ideas at November 21 Trail Planning Meeting

The South Utah County Trails & Forebay Trails meeting scheduled for Thursday will give residents the opportunity to share their hopes for uses of City-owned canyon property, according to Payson Planner Jill Spencer.

“Payson City owns about 500 acres of property in Payson Canyon, that’s just up from Gladstan Golf Course,” she said during the November 6 Payson City Council meeting. “We are working with the National Park Service as well as a group of BYU students to create a management plan for that 500 acres.  And so we are soliciting feedback from the community of what uses they would like to see on that property- what they would like to use it for.”

Much of the property is comprised of steep slopes, Ms Spencer explained, namely hillsides, the foothills- areas that the city would like to protect.  But there are some areas that could accommodate some varied land uses, she added.

The open house, which runs from 5-7 PM, will take place in the City Center Banquet Hall, located at 439 West Utah Avenue, Payson.
