Veterans Honored at American Legion Memorial Day Program

Local soldiers and veterans line up for the Memorial Day flag ceremony and gun salute.

The weather could not have been gentler to the crowd of hundreds who convened near the Veterans Memorial at Payson Cemetery to share in the May 28 Memorial Day program. Beneath the theme “One Nation Under God,” Payson's American Legion hosted the event, wherein proper respect was paid to soldiers living and past.

A lovely day was made even lovelier with the Miss Payson Royalty serving as greeters during the 2012 Memorial Day Program. Pictured are (center) Miss Payson Stefani Dimond and her attendants, Julia Waterman (First Runner-up, pictured to her left) and Nancy Pratt (Second Runner-up, pictured right).
American Legion Commander Gary Herbert was among the community's veterans who helped create a successful and enjoyable venue at which locals could show their support for those who served in battles near and far.

Three sergeants, all part of the 624th Engineers of Springville, who are scheduled for a year's deployment to Afghanistan this June, were recognized by Payson's American Legion during the Memorial Day program May 28. Pictured (left-right): Jeremy Arnold, Travis Thomas, and John Vielbaum.

World War II Army Veteran Jack Provstgaard was among the community's most admirable members honored in song at Monday's Memorial Day program. Shown seated nearby him are (left) his wife Joyce, and daughter, Sharon Shuler (right).

Navy veteran, Doug Holt gave the closing prayer.
