MARY JEAN OKELBERRY BROWN
Mary Jean Brown loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister, passed away peacefully in Payson, UT Sunday June 4, 2017 at age 89.
Mary Jean was born on April 9, 1928 in Goshen to Roy and Valina Okelberry.
She was raised in Goshen and helped on her father’s sheep ranch. After graduating from Payson High School in 1946 she married her high school sweetheart Wayne L. Brown.They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple on April 10, 1958. She was a sweet care giver for Wayne who had Parkinson’s disease for many years. After Wayne’s passing in 2006 she married Bud Nielsen and they have enjoyed 10 years traveling and each other’s companionship.
Mary Jean was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served with diligence in various callings including Primary President, Relief Society President, a cub scout leader, and a temple worker.She enjoyed many years working at Christensen’s Department store
She had a love affair with horses and foals, baby lambs, she loved going to West Fork, bluebells, family, Christmas trees and family Christmas parties.She loved the outdoors, hunting, gardening, and canning. She loved cooking for everyone and caring for anyone in need. She was very generous with her time and talents.
She was a beautiful lady that enjoyed classy, nice clothes and especially wool clothing from Pendleton.
She is survived by her husband, Bud Nielsen, and his children Ray (Colleen) Wilson and Suzanne (Steve) Spencer, her 6 children: Jackie (Jerry) Hamling of Pleasant Grove, Joel (Marcine) Brown of West Mountain, Jim Brown of Levan, Mark (Cheryl) Brown of Elk Ridge, Chad (Diann) Brown of Elk Ridge, Beverly (Kelly) Lloyd of Heber, 36 Grandchildren, 103 Great grandchildren, 11 Great-great grandchildren, and brother Ray Okelberry of Goshen. She is preceeded in death by her husband Wayne L. Brown, parents Roy and Valina Okelberry, Sisters, June and Alta and brother Lee Okelberry, two granddaughters Audry and JoAnn Brown, and daughter-in-law Evelyn Brown.
The family would like to give special thanks for the loving care given to their mother by Bud Nielsen, Bonnie Ballard-Valdez (who is like a daughter), Cami Jensen and the I Care Hospice team.
Services will be held Saturday June 10, 2017 at 11:00 am in the West Mountain 4th Ward, 3 miles West of Payson on Utah Ave. with a visitation beginning at 9:30am. Friends and family may call Friday June 9, 2017, 5:30- 8:00pm at Walker Mortuary, 587 South 100 West in Payson, Utah. Interment will be in the Payson City Cemetery.
