Mourning the Passing of Friends: Forthcoming Funeral Services

Forthcoming funeral services are planned for the following friends from our community. Complete versions of these obituaries may also be found in The Payson Chronicle.

Beth Elaine Shawcroft Schempp

Beth "Bethy" Elaine Shawcroft Schempp, age 77, of Elk Ridge, passed away peacefully on October 24, 2018 surrounded by loved ones. Beth was born on July 26, 1941 in Alamosa, Colorado to James Reese and Ada Lorene Rasmussen Shawcroft. A 1959 graduate of La Jara High School, Beth was a cheerleader, a member of the band and the Harvest Ball Queen. She went on to attend Brigham Young University where she continued to play her trumpet performing in the marching band.

She married her high school sweetheart, Lloyd William Schempp, on June 6, 1960 in the Salt Lake City Temple. They were blessed with six children and were actively involved in their lives; she was their biggest cheerleader. She faithfully raised her special-needs child into adulthood never fully reaping the rewards of having an empty nest.

Blessed with many musical talents, Beth also loved to crochet and was a wonderful seamstress sewing clothes for several children, quilts and countless home decor items and gifts for others. Many people’s hearts were touched, as she was known for sending thousands of thank-you and birthday cards. As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, she served in many callings particularly in the Primary and Relief Society Programs.

Beth is survived by her husband Lloyd William Schempp, children: Sandy King of West Valley City, Utah; Keith (Candi) Schempp of Star, Idaho; Christine (Mel) Oyler of Pleasant Grove, Utah; Lisa (David) Flinders of Pleasant Grove, Utah; Karl (Shari) Schempp of Saratoga Springs, Utah and Kelly Schempp of Pleasant Grove, Utah; 26 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers Gary (Ethel) Shawcroft of La Jara, Colorado; Terry Shawcroft of West Valley City, Utah; and sister Lorna (Glen) Franck of Idaho Falls, Idaho.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother, James Reese Shawcroft and Ada Lorene (Rasmussen) Shawcroft.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the La Jara 2nd Ward, 117 7th Street, La Jara, Colorado. A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at the Elk Ridge 5th Ward, 450 Elk Ridge Drive, Elk Ridge, Utah from 6-8 p.m. There will also be a visitation prior to the funeral service on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 9:30- 10:30 a.m. at the La Jara 2nd Ward. Interment will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at the Sanford Cemetery, Sanford, Colorado.
