Mourning the Passing of Friends: Forthcoming Funeral Services

“What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” ~ Helen Keller

Forthcoming funeral services are planned for the following friends from our community. Complete versions of these obituaries may be found in The Payson Chronicle and on our website at paysonchronicle.com.
Erma Sutherland Buys
1935-2016

Loving wife and mother Erma Sutherland Buys passed away on November 19, 2016, surrounded by family.

Erma was born on April 29, 1935 to Roscoe Bliss Sutherland and Roma Boyle. She married her high school sweetheart, Jerry Patten Buys, on October 15, 1953. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti Temple.

Erma was active in her community. She was a longtime member of the Payson Cultus Club and enjoyed her association with the Payson Lady Firemen. As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in such callings as the Relief Society and Young Women's presidencies. She enjoyed her time serving in the Provo Temple. Erma retired from JCPenney in 1995.

Erma always had a sense of humor, and loved to visit with others. She also liked to read and take walks with her dog, Missy. She was supportive of her grandchildren and loved to spend time with those she loved at the family cabin.

Erma is preceded in death by her parents and a son, Jerry E. Buys. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, son Michael (Becca) of Orem, daughter-in-law Cindy F. Buys of Saint George, son Craig (Cindy) of Payson, daughter Joni (Jason) Bateman of Mosida, sister Lois Wright, 18 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to offer a special thanks to Bonnie Valdez for her care and support, and to Erma's loving husband, Jerry, for his endearing dedication to his sweetheart.

Viewing will be held at Walker Mortuary in Payson on Tuesday November 226:00-8:00 PM  and at Payson Park Ward at 110 South 300 West on Wednesday November 23, 9:45-10:45 AM, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Interment Payson City Cemetery.
