Mourning the Passing of Friends: Forthcoming Funeral Services

“What we have once enjoyed we can never lose.  All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” ~ Helen Keller

Forthcoming funeral services are planned for the following friends from our community. Complete versions of these obituaries may also be found in The Payson Chronicle.

Gordon Norman Oborn
Gordon Norman Oborn, aged 81, passed away in Provo, Utah on May 3rd surrounded by his loving family.

Gordon was born on November 6th, 1936 in Eureka, Utah to Norman Oborn and Afton Finlinson.  He was married to Pamela Ann Trejo in Mesa, Arizona on August 7th, 1963.

He received his bachelors from the University of Utah. While attending the U of U, he played tailback for the football team, was on the Universities’ baseball team and was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity.  He continued on to receive his Masters Degree from Brigham Young University. He taught for 30 years at Pleasant Groove High School where he loved teaching and being involved with the students.

He grew up in Payson, Utah where he was involved with all the athletics he could participate in and enjoyed returning back every year for the Salmon Festival.

Gordon was a 1st Class Airman in the Air Force from 1963-1968. He had a strong sense of patriotism and loved this country.

He served a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Billings, Montana and the surrounding North and South Dakota areas.

He later served a mission with his wife Pam in Ithaca, New York, on the Cornell University Campus serving in the Church Educational System.

Respecting his loved ones within his sphere of love and influence, we have these many years observed, listened, questioned, laughed with (and laughed at), helped and have been helped by him, supported and sustained by him. His character, his example has touched us deeply and has made us better; it has made us want to be better; to aim higher; to strive and reach for a greater realm of possibility within ourselves; to be the persons we feel he believed each one of us to be. His passion for life inspired us, and continues to inspire us; to want to see new things and have adventures as he has had and to honor this life that is so precious a gift from our loving Heavenly Father.

Gordon showed us the meaning of hard work, happiness at play, honor, integrity, and commitment to God, family, friends and work.

He is survived by his wife Pamela Oborn, and his children Mike (Molly)Oborn, Tami (David) Hales, Rob (Maren) Oborn, Garry (Hannah) Oborn, Tia (Brian) Francis, by his 16 grandchildren and his 4 great grandchildren, his sister Gene (Carl) Ingersoll, his brothers Kent (Sharyl) Oborn, and Lynn (Elaine) Oborn. He is preceded by his parents Norman Oborn and Afton Finlinson and his older brother Ralph.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 9th, at 11:00 am, at the Edgemont 10th Ward, 345 East 4525 North, Provo, Utah, where a Visitation will be held prior to services from 9:00 to 10:30 am. Interment with Military Honors in East Lawn Memorial Hills Cemetery.
