Mourning the Passing of Friends: Forthcoming Funeral Services

“What we have once enjoyed we can never lose.  All that we love deeply becomes a part of us.” ~ Helen Keller

Don L Kirk
Surrounded by friends and family on September 7th, 2017, Don L Kirk took his final checkered flag, as he won his race to Heaven.
Don L was born March 1, 1948, in Payson Utah, to Don & LaVois Colvin Kirk.
His childhood years were spent with a ball in his hand and spikes on his feet.
Don attended school in Payson and excelled in baseball, football, basketball, tennis, and golf. He graduated in the class of 1966 from Payson High School.
He ‘walked on’ to the Saint George Dixie Rebels baseball team where he showcased his talents on the diamond, proved his passion for the game and achieved his Associates Degree in Science. From there he attended Southern Utah State College in Cedar City where he furthered his education and continued playing baseball.
On February 12th, 1972, Don L married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Caren Curtis. They had 2 children, Liberty Don and Casey Merica.
Don made an early career in drywall finishing while raising his family. He continued his love for sports by playing golf, coaching his kids baseball, taking them on many camping and hunting trips, and continuing the family tradition of stock car racing.
He followed in his dad and father in law (Harvey Curtis) footsteps. His competitive nature led him to build and race stock cars at Suntana Raceway in the 123 and 23 numbered cars.
In 1990, Don L returned to Southern Utah State College and finished his Bachelors Degree in Secondary Education. Upon completion of his Bachelors, he accepted a teaching position at Gunnison High School in Sanpete County.
He retired at the age of 62 after teaching for 20 years. His retirement years were spent in the fairways, on the greens, and “just puttin’ around".
Don influenced and touched the lives of many people through different avenues in his lifetime. He made forever, lasting friendships and memories with a uniqueness known only to him.
Don L is survived by his loving wife, Caren, son, Liberty (Angie) Kirk, daughter, Casey (Casey) Christensen, 6 grandkids, 7 great-grandkids, 4 expected great-grandkids, brother Shawn, and mother in law LaVee Curtis.
He is preceded in death by his parents Don and LaVois Kirk, brothers Jerry, Rocky, and Mickey Kirk, great granddaughter Indy Taylor, and father-in-law Harvey Curtis.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday September 12, 2017 at Walker Funeral Home in Payson at 11:00 a.m. Family and friends may visit on Monday, September 11, 2017 from 6 to 8:00 p.m. and Tuesday, from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. prior to funeral services.  Interment will follow at the Payson Cemetery.
