Another #throwbackThursday from The Payson Chronicle office files: A page from the 1954 Santaquin School yearbook featuring the Santaquin Jr. High Band.
At that time, Santaquin grade school students attended classes in the old Central School building established in 1903 on the corner of First West and First South; the Chieftain Museum has occupied the historic building since the museum's dedication in 1990.
Santaquin Junior High School students attended classes in the building to the east that, today, is utilized by Santaquin City for city council and planning meetings, as well as local recreation activities in the gymnasium on the south side.
When this yearbook was compiled, the two buildings were separated by a grassy area and a sidewalk. They would eventually be connected with the construction of a kitchen and cafeteria used to feed hungry students throughout the school year. This building now serves as the Santaquin Senior Citizens Center.
