In the fall of 1850, the pioneers arrived in what was
to eventually become the city of Payson. They were looking forward
to a great new life ahead of them in the new settlement. However,
less than three months later on January 19, 1851, the newest member
of the settlement, Jerusha Searle, passed away. She was only nine
days old.
