Tessa Grettenberger's watercolor painting, "Rainbow Lorikeets," took Best of Show at the Tenth Annual Nebo District High School Art Show. It is on display, along with other great student entries, at the Peteetneet Art Gallery through the end of April. See this week's edition of The Payson Chronicle for more.
It has been ten years since the annual juried Nebo District High School Art Show first opened to young artists eager to exhibit their work in a gallery setting. This year’s show opened earlier this month at the Peteetneet Museum Art Gallery with entries that point to the show’s continued success for many years to come.
Rebecca Peery, Peteetneet Art Council President, could not be more pleased with the talent on display through the end of April. “We’ve got a good variety,” she said. “I love being able to highlight the students’ art.”
Submissions arrived at the Peteetneet this year from students attending Payson High School, Salem Hills High School, Spanish Fork High School, and Aspen Academy Homeschool Co-op. It was an artist from the latter of these schools who received the show’s highest award.
Tessa Grettenberger, a seventeen-year-old senior attending Aspen Academy, was awarded Best of Show her for her watercolor painting,"Rainbow Lorikeets.”
Her award-winning piece is just one of many on display in this year’s show. ”Tessa Grettenberger is an exceptional art student whose work we have highlighted in the glass cases in the gallery,” said Ms. Peery. Miss Grettenberger’s art instructor at Aspen Academy is Valerie Butler.
A surge of hopefulness can be found, too, among viewers who take the time to witness the artistry of the artists’ work on canvas, paper, and in sculpture. Artwork from such students as 1st Place winner Jordan Jeppson from Payson High for a pencil rendering of "Octopus and Skull," 2nd Place winner Danna Wilson from Salem Hills High School for a mixed media creation of "Butterfly," and 3rd Place winner Ashlyn Drager from Payson High for her pencil sketch of "Old Lady."
Seven Honorable Mention winners also make up part of the 2016 show: Abigail Hawkins of Salem Hills High School for her mixed media piece titled “A Stressful Situation,” Jerry Miranda Lopez of Spanish Fork High School for “Courage” in pencil and ink; Kade Richardson of Salem Hills High School for “Backlit Light,” a steel sculpture; Salem Hills High’s Kiner Kwok for an oil painting titled “Balance”; Spanish Fork High School’s Davin Parish for his photograph; Janelle Slater of Salem Hills High School for her acrylic painting, “Fairy Tales and Fantasies,” and Heidi Roberts of Salem Hills for her oil painting, “Lukas.”
